Flowers In My Mouth and In My Eyes

It's already Sunday evening. Damn. I'm sitting on the floor in the living room, checking in with the internet and listening to the Cure. Well, I was. Now we're listening to Niafunke by Ali Farka Toure.

The weekend was pretty low key. It was nice to have a little rest. Friday night we saw "Junebug", a well acted and written but ultimately frustrating film. Yesterday we went to a few thrift stores, ate good Hong Kong style Chinese food, and then came back home and napped before heading out to the trail for a run. My workout was a bit of a struggle, and I blame the beef chow fun in black bean sauce. The record scores yesterday were pretty weak. Just two records, one a Greg Brown record from 1988, the other the first release from Whistle, with the classic "Say What, We're Only Bugging". Y'all remember that one, right?

This morning I ran 12 or so around Lake Natoma with some of the local crew. It was mellow, and a nice way to break in my new shoes. I'm rocking the adidas adiZeros because my favorite Nike has an upper that self destructs after about 75 miles. They're great shoes but I can't really buy a new pair every week and a half. I hope to get a little more out of the adidas. We'll see.

I consulted my coach and he thinks the marathon is a good idea, so I think that will be the long term project for next year. He thinks I should wait until December of next year and run the California International Marathon here in Sac. It's a great race with a good reputation and he thinks I should take the entire year to prepare. So, two weeks off in December 2005 and then it will be more or less 50 weeks until CIM in December 2006. Ken, my coach, ran 2:25 there in 1983. I am tentatively shooting for 2:30, though that might be a little lofty. There are a lot of steps, literally and figuratively, that I must make before getting there.
